SD billionaire T. Denny Sanford’s net worth has grown
South Dakota billionaire continues to accumulate wealth despite significant charitable contributions to healthcare, education and other causes.
T. Denny Sanford’s net worth has jumped $ 600 million in just a few months, according to the 400 richest Americans list published Wednesday by Forbes.
The credit card mogul’s net worth is $ 3.4 billion, placing the 85-year-old in 340th place on the list. Sanford, the only South Dakota on the list, was not on the Forbes 400 list in October 2020. However, his net worth has since recovered to $ 1.4 billion in a year and a half.
Sanford’s lifetime donation total exceeds $ 2 billion, according to the Forbes 400 list. He recently donated $ 1.5 million to the Stockyards Ag Experience project in Falls Park, and his other philanthropic endeavors in the Sioux Falls community include Sanford Health, the State Theater and even a Great Plains Zoo lion exhibit.
Sanford owns First Premier Bank and First Premier Bankcard, specializing in subprime credit cards for people with bad credit.
Sanford’s contributions to a Sioux Falls-based hospital system in 2007 prompted the system to change its name in his honor. Sanford Health has benefited from around $ 1.5 billion in donations from the philanthropist and used the money to expand its offerings to Sioux Falls and elsewhere.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos tops the Forbes 400 list with a net worth of $ 201 billion, followed by Tesla and SpaceX’s Elon Musk ($ 190.5 billion), Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg (134, $ 5 billion), Microsoft’s Bill Gates ($ 134 billion, and Google’s Larry Page ($ 123 billion).
